Here you will meet a fantastic team of people who all work together to ensure that you as a guest have an unforgettable stay with us. Our employees all have different skills and qualities that together make up exceptional service.
With us, one thing is important, besides the guest, it is important for us to have fun at work and that we all develop.
At the turn of the century 1900 Sigrid Fagerlund Östra Torps Strandhotell. But the pub was not granted liquor licences. Instead, Sigrid decided to build a new hotel with a restaurant if she was allowed to hold liquor licences. The licence was granted in 1919, as was the house, which was built on its current site and named Smygehus Havsbad.
Over time, she built a cinema adjacent to the hotel, which, together with the hotel cinema in Skurup, was the only cinema in Sweden that had full wine and spirits rights. Today, the old projector is located next to the reception.
Sigrid's daughter Svea grew up at a very young age with the hotel and all the kitchen's activities, and at an early age she took over responsibility for the entire business together with her husband Börje Nilsson.
The food served reflected the seasons and was of the highest quality, widely recognised in the region. Among the guests were Putte Kock, the football oracle, Ivar Lo-Johansson, the Stockholm writer, and Fritiof Nilsson Pirate. Ivar Lo-Johansson and Fritiof Nilsson Piraten visited Smygehus Havsbad to write books and Ivar Lo-Johansson stayed at Smygehus for several summers and wrote a short story about Smygehuk called ”Southern tip of Sweden”.
Svea Nilsson ended her era with her death in 1975. The property was bought by a group that formed a housing association and condominiums were built for Havsbadet. The couple Zaid and Weini Veldre took over the operation and ran the hotel and restaurant for over twenty years before choosing to move from Sweden. In the 1980s and 1990s, Smygehus ran the night café Smyg-inn, which became a popular nightclub and which the restaurant still organises today.
In 2014, Brahim Hsissi, former restaurateur for Kultur in Lund, heard that Smygehus was looking for a new restaurateur. He went to Smygehamn and fell in love with the place, the surrounding nature and the sea view, and he imagined what could be done with the place.
Since 2012, the house had been empty and Brahim noticed that local people were excited about Smygehus reopening.
Over the years, Brahim has developed the place as a hotel, restaurant and conference centre with a spa and gym. Brahim Hsissi is still the CEO of Smygehus Havsbad, which continues to develop every year.
I the restaurants a buffet breakfast is served, lunch, evening dinner, brunch and coffee, as a guest with us you almost always visit the restaurant. Here you will meet our skilled waiters who will take care of you during your visit! The bar offers a wide range of drinks, wines and beers and the table serves world-class food.
Our restaurant manager Martin and his staff will take care of you, whether it is wedding, lunch of the day or christmas table.
